Terms of Service for StepTap

Welcome to StepTap! These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of our website, mobile applications, and any related services (collectively, the “Service”). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Your Account

To access certain features, you may need to create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to notify us immediately if you suspect any unauthorised use or security breach.

2. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Service lawfully and respectfully. You must not:

  • Harass, intimidate, abuse, or otherwise harm others;
  • Upload or share content that is unlawful, offensive, or infringes intellectual property rights;
  • Interfere with the operation of the Service or other users’ enjoyment of it;
  • Use the Service for any unlawful or unauthorised purpose.

We reserve the right to moderate, remove, or restrict content or access that violates these Terms or applicable laws.

3. User Content

You retain ownership of all intellectual property rights in any content you submit, post, or upload to the Service (“User Content”).

By submitting User Content, you grant StepTap a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, and sublicensable licence to use, reproduce, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, display, and distribute such content for the limited purpose of operating, promoting, and improving the Service.

This licence continues even after you stop using the Service (e.g. if your videos are re-shared by others).

You represent and warrant that you have all rights necessary to grant this licence and that your User Content complies with all applicable laws.

4. StepTap’s Intellectual Property

All content, code, trademarks, branding, and design elements of the Service (excluding User Content) are the property of StepTap or its licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our content without our prior written permission.

5. Copyright and Intellectual Property

a. Instructor Content

If you are an instructor uploading original material (such as lessons, performances, commentary, or training footage), you retain full ownership of your intellectual property.

By submitting your content to StepTap, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to store, stream, and display your content only to users you’ve authorised, solely for the purpose of operating the Service. We do not claim ownership over your materials, and we will never sell or make them publicly available without your explicit permission.

b. Use of Copyrighted Music and Third-Party Material

Some videos on the Service may include incidental use of third-party content (e.g., copyrighted music) for instructional or demonstrative purposes. All such content is:

  • Uploaded in a private, access-restricted environment;
  • Not made available for public download, streaming, or broadcast;
  • Intended for educational or training use within StepTap's closed platform.

By using the Service, you agree that you will not upload or distribute any content that infringes the copyright or other rights of third parties. However, we recognise that some material (e.g., background music in a dance video) may appear unintentionally or as part of an instructional context. If you are a rights holder and believe your content is being used improperly, please reach out to us at copyright@steptap.com, and we’ll address your request promptly.

6. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at our sole discretion, with or without notice, including if you breach these Terms.

You may delete your account at any time by contacting us or through the app. Upon termination, all rights granted to you under these Terms will cease immediately.

7. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." We make no guarantees, warranties, or representations of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, StepTap and its officers, employees, affiliates, partners, and licensors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or exemplary damages, including loss of profits, goodwill, or data, arising from your use or inability to use the Service.

Nothing in these Terms limits your rights under Australian Consumer Law.

8. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Australia. You agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the relevant State or Territory in Australia for any disputes arising under these Terms.

9. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify users via email or through the app at least 30 days before the new Terms take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
